Introduction

The 6th Form Prospectus is produced in the hope that it will provide useful information to prospective 6th Form students and their parents.

Rednock School operates as a 6th Form Centre with an "open access" policy for anyone between the ages of 16 and 19. Mature students are also welcome if there is space available. There are courses provided to suit students of all abilities.

However, we must be sure that students are capable of deriving real educational benefit from membership of the 6th Form, and so we do lay down the following entry conditions:

That the student has the appropriate educational background, which allows natural progression to the course of their choice.
That we believe the student will gain potential benefit from the course.
That the student has the commitment and motivation to successfully follow the course through.

A more detailed entry policy is available on request.

All students accepted for a particular course must recognise that they are making a form of 'Agreement' with the 6th Form Centre, and agree to abide by the information set out in this booklet and the 6th Form Handbook.

We very much hope that all entrants to the 6th Form will resolve to make the most of the many academic, cultural, sporting and social opportunities which are available, and that they will provide an example and leadership to the rest of the School.

Why stay on?

- The 6th Form provides you with the opportunity to gain additional qualifications for jobs, for further education or for higher education.

- The 6th Form provides smaller classes for most subjects giving you closer contact with your teachers and more opportunity for individual help. The style of work is different from lower down the School and you will be expected to organise your own time far more and to take more responsibility for your own learning.

- The 6th Form provides tutoring. You are not left to 'sink or swim'. You will be a member of a tutor group and have contact every day with your tutor with whom you can discuss your academic progress, your hopes and plans for the future and any other personal issues that may arise, or, you can discuss these matters with the Director of 6th Form (Mrs James) or the Assistant Directors.

- If you are already at Rednock, the 6th Form provides continuity. You are familiar with the School atmosphere, you will probably already know some of the staff teaching or counselling you and you will find some continuity of approach both in what is taught and how it is taught. If you have to retake a G.C.S.E., you will avoid most problems of a different syllabus or examination board.

- We welcome students from other schools.

- The 6th Form provides you with social contact with your friends who are staying on. It's not like being in Year 11. We try to encourage a student atmosphere. There is a 6th Form Centre to work and to relax in.

DO YOU WANT RESULTS? We have an established academic reputation. Each year we send a large proportion of students on to University.

DO YOU THINK THERE'S MORE TO SCHOOL THAN JUST WORK?

We do. We provide many extra-curricular activities and the 6th Form has its own committee that organises social events.

DO YOU WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND TAKE A LEAD in the School community or play a part in the local community? We hope so.
